The Hong Kong Prize is one of Asia’s premier high school contests, recognizing academic achievements as well as extracurricular participation. It also cultivates young people with a spirit of self-challenge and provides opportunities for them to showcase their talent on the global stage. In addition, the competition is a wonderful way for students to make an impact on society.

The Prize is awarded annually to recognise and reward the work of scientists in three categories – astronomy, life science and medicine, and mathematical sciences. A cash award and a certificate will be presented to the winner. The prize was established to commemorate the memory of the late entertainment mogul Run Run Shaw, who wished to perpetuate the legacy of scientific research in Hong Kong.

To ensure the quality of the judging process, the HK Prize is overseen by a Steering Committee composed of representatives of academic societies, industry and government. The Committee is responsible for promoting the spirit of the Prize, encouraging more people to participate in it, and ensuring that its evaluation criteria are strictly adhered to. In addition, the Steering Committee will review the judging results and award decisions on an ongoing basis to ensure that they are impartial and objective.

Besides cash awards, the HK Prize also offers educational scholarships to high-achieving students who are interested in studying the topic of the winning article. The scholarship is sponsored by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) Hong Kong Chapter, a not-for-profit organization which holds social and training activities on a regular basis to connect anti-fraud professionals.

The HK Prize is awarded annually by the Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation and title sponsored by Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited to honour outstanding scientific researchers and research teams in Hong Kong and those working within Hong Kong-based universities or research-related institutions set up by Hong Kong higher education institutions. Laureates are expected to have made significant contributions in scientific research and have influence on the transformation of R&D outcomes in Hong Kong.

Each of the award fields should not be awarded to more than 5 persons (or team) per year. The BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE is governed by the BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Innovators’ Prize Charter, which was designed to promote the scientific and standardized management of THE PRIZE and ensure the objectivity and fairness of the judging process.

Justice Centre Hong Kong is a non-profit organisation which works to ensure that no person walks alone on their journey to protection, justice and a decent life.
